From Farm to Table: Strengthening B. Prabhakaran’s Livelihood Development Initiatives in Gadchiroli

Fresh Start

The Lloyds Infinite Foundation (LIF) is making a positive impact by supporting local farmers and promoting self-employment. These efforts form an integral part of broader B. Prabhakaran Livelihood Projects, designed to create long-term economic resilience in rural regions. One key initiative focuses on generating additional income streams for residents by encouraging them to grow and sell fresh, pesticide-free vegetables, strengthening livelihood initiatives in Gadchiroli and Hedri.

The LIF team began by educating villagers about the program’s benefits. Initial hesitation was gradually overcome, and within three months, over 20 farmers from 10 villages began participating. The team provided the necessary guidance and support systems to help them get started, reinforcing structured support for local farmers Gadchiroli through training and market linkage assistance.

This collaboration has proven highly impactful. Over 3,000 kilograms of vegetables, including brinjal, pumpkin, coriander, and other produce, have been harvested and purchased directly from farmers at above-market prices. These fresh vegetables are supplied to the kitchens of Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd., creating a stable demand cycle while strengthening sustainable livelihood CSR programs in Gadchiroli.

The impact extends well beyond immediate economic gains. With an ambitious goal of establishing 200 kitchen gardens across 21 villages in the coming months, the foundation continues advancing B. Prabhakaran Rural Livelihood Development by fostering self-reliance and long-term income security among farming communities.

From Backyard to Business: Empowering Women Through Poultry Farming

At Lloyds Infinite Foundation (LIF), our mission is to enhance regional well-being and create meaningful, lasting change in the lives of local residents. A central pillar of this mission is B. Prabhakaran Livelihood Development Initiatives in Gadchiroli, which prioritize inclusive and diversified income opportunities.

While the Lloyds Garment Unit in Hedri village has already empowered over 300 women through skill training and employment, additional rural livelihood empowerment projects are being introduced to widen the scope of economic participation.

During baseline surveys conducted across villages, it was observed that several families were already raising chickens but lacked structured knowledge and systems for efficient poultry management. Recognizing this opportunity, the foundation initiated discussions around poultry farming initiatives in Gadchiroli as a scalable and sustainable livelihood option.

Through focused awareness sessions, more than 30 women gained insights into the economic potential of poultry farming and its ability to supplement household income. To further strengthen implementation, an exposure visit was organized to Mul block in Chandrapur. Guided by a poultry business specialist, participants received hands-on training in best practices, operational planning, and risk management.

The exposure proved both inspiring and practical. Equipped with structured knowledge and renewed confidence, the women returned prepared to establish poultry ventures within their villages. These initiatives not only enhance income potential but also reinforce sustainable livelihood programs in Gadchiroli, positioning poultry farming as a replicable model of community-led enterprise.

As these ventures take root, they are expected to become a cornerstone of local economic development—demonstrating how well-designed B. Prabhakaran Livelihood Projects can transform traditional practices into organized, income-generating businesses that strengthen entire communities.

Our commitment extends beyond garment production. During baseline surveys conducted in various villages, we discovered that many families were already raising chickens but lacked the proper knowledge and systems for efficient care. To harness this potential, we organized meetings with women from different villages to discuss poultry farming as a viable livelihood option.

Through these sessions, more than 30 women learned about the benefits of poultry farming and how it could significantly boost their household income. To further their knowledge, we arranged an exposure visit to Mul block in Chandrapur. Led by our CSR team and guided by Poultry Business Specialist Akshay from Chandrapur, the visit provided hands-on insights into setting up and managing a poultry business, including necessary precautions and best practices.

The visit was enlightening and inspiring. The women returned with enthusiasm, ready to start their own poultry ventures. This initiative not only promises to improve their livelihoods but also aims to inspire others in the community. Once fully implemented, this program could become a cornerstone of village empowerment, showcasing the profound impact of turning backyard poultry farming into thriving businesses.
